Real Life Heroes

Heroes don't always come in the form of comics or cartoon characters, they can be found in unexpected places and times.  You can be a hero too!

Annually, 4.5 million Americans will need a blood transfusion, on average every 2 seconds someone in the world needs a blood transfusion. When you or someone you know donates blood that pint of blood it can save a life.  There are four different  types of blood donations: a whole blood donation, a double red cell donation, platelets and plasma donation. When someone decides to donate blood they can donate up to one pint, which can potentially save up to three lives.

There is no danger in donating blood, in fact, before you donate the nurses do 2 easy steps to check if you qualify.  First, they check your medical history and second, they do a quick physical to make sure that you're healthy.   If saving someone's life is not enough to convince you to donate blood, how about a sweet snack, I think thats a plus.

The actual blood donation takes about 10 minutes, but plan to be there for up to an hour. The entire process from when you sign in to the time when you leave is about an hour, this is because of the paper works that you would need to complete and the potential wait time depending on how busy all the staffs are.

Reminder: To donate blood you have to be at least 17 years old.The San Diego Blood Bank visits 200 different places in San Diego within one month. If your still unsure about donating blood or is scared, don't go alone, take a friend with you, make a day of it and have a good time.

Better Health Habits

Your body's health and emotional/psychological health are interrelated, tied together. In order to have a happy and healthy body, mind and soul you will need to start by taking care of your health, simple changes like making better food choices and incorporating some exercise into your daily routine can do just that.  Exercise manages your weight and keeps you in shape.

The most important thing you should do is eat a nutritious breakfast every morning.  People who do this tend to have more energy throughout the day, leaner bodies and decreases the chances of overeating.  Don't forget to drink (8) eight cups of water every day.  Getting enough sleeping also plays a role in your health, sleeping allows your body to recover from all the activities and energy you spent the day before.  Not getting enough sleep can make you feel cranky and tired.

However, simple things like brushing your teeth can maintain your health.  Good dental hygiene is one small thing that can make a big difference that can expand your life expectancy. Unhealthy dental hygiene has been known to lead to various diseases.

These are small steps to a happier and healthier you.

Some healthier versions of your favorite foods:
1.) Baked Mac and Cheese
2.) Chicken Pot Pie
3.) Hamburger Buddy

No matter whats your age, there is always something thats bothering you and it just seems that you can't get it off your mind.  Music no matter what kind seems to relax people a lot.   Music can help you do things a lot faster than usual and it can also clear your head of a lot of things that are bothering you.  For example, if your feeling down and it just seems that you don't want to do anything, upbeat music has been proven to cheer life people's spirits.

Studies have also proven that students do their homework and study better while listening to music.   Music is inspiring as well, lyrics are able to express messages about whats going on in the world, for example, Wheres the Love by the Black Eyed Peas.  Whether rock or hip-hop is your type of music, it can be a very useful tool.

Time to Kill Time

As the school year gears to an end and everyone officially goes on vacation, teenagers are left with days, weeks and months of time that are not occupied by any structure -- a dream come true -- temporarily. As the vacation progresses, they get bored and annoyed because they can't find nothing else to do.

If you find yourself in one of these situations don't worry, there are billions and trillions of activities that will help you rid yourself of boredom.

Exercising is one fun and healthy way you can utilize your time in the summer.   Exercising occupies your body and mind  and you can have that satisfaction of seeing the results you have made from your hard work.  Not only is it a good way to stay in shape, exercise also releases stress and frustration.

Another fun and easy way to keep your mind occupied is changing up your daily routines, such as, going out at a restaurant or mall that you have not or usually don't go to, plan a trip somewhere, or join a club to meet new people.  In my opinion art is one inspiring and motivating way to spend some free time.   Starting is the most difficult, but once you get into the practice of drawing your skills will definitely improve.  Photography is also a very interesting medium to work with.

Better Fitness, Better Life

Did you know that people have higher self-esteem if they are in shape compared to people who are not?

This is one of the reasons why you should consider changing up your lifestyle to boost your self-esteem.  Getting started is sometimes the hardest obstacle that people face.  One thing you should try is avoid routines and see if you can't get your family and peers to be involved.  You can motivate one another to live a healthier lifestyle, a plus, you are doing it on your own.  Routine is often the reason why people forget what their doing and they give up.  To avoid routine, try working out different in different areas or try different work outs, that way you won't get bored and you won't give yourself an excuse to stop.

However, people try to avoid work outs and go straight to diets, but there are negatives with that plan.   Diets will help you loose weight but not the body fat thats harming you, thats why work outs are necessary in all fitness plans.  Working out will help you loose the unnecessary body fat.  While diets do help you loose weight, the body fat will still be there causing the unnecessary weight to come back more easily.

Here are some tips to be successful in what you want:
1.) Believe in yourself
2.) Always keep goals that you know you will be able to achieve
3.) Always be active in one way or another with out having to work out all day(ex:walking to store instead of driving, help out other people, not using control remote when watching television, ect.
4.) Making healthy food choices
