High Risk Behaviors Among Teenagers

One of the few changes that teenagers go through when their body sends out hormones and signals to the brain is the sensation to seek activities that will give them the rush and excitement that they want to experience.  Teenagers are more likely to engage in gangs, illegal street racing, fights, and other illegal activities to seek rush of adrenaline into the body.

However, the behaviors and activities can be harmful and dangerous.  In some cases, if something goes wrong it can lead to bodily harm or death.  Teenagers living in poor neighborhoods are more likely to engage in high risk activities due to the fact that most high risk activities take place in urban settings and low income neighborhoods.

Don't, however, disregard the possibilities for teens outside of poor neighborhoods or high risk areas to be involved in high risk activities.

Dealing with Your Parents' Divorce

Ever wondered what to do if one of your parents ever asked you, "Are you going to miss me if I'm not living with you anymore?".

What would you do?

In recent years, pregnancy outside of marriage among those 18 and older have become more common in the US.  Marriage can end over a single dispute, changes in lifestyle, differences in feelings towards one another.   However, they may not foresee or realize the pain that their divorce may cause their children.

Recent studies have show that a death of a parent is less emotionally harmful than a divorce, hard to believe but true.  Teenagers that live in a house disrupted by death has less psychological problems than a teenager living in a home where divorce between parents.  Most parents don't realize this, but teenagers and children are most affected by family problems that are not limited to divorce but can include: parental argument, violence, drug use, alcohol use, etc.

Where's My Freedom?

Many teens may ask themselves, why don't my parents trust on me or why do they still treat me like a child?

This is one of the conflicts that may develop between parents and their child.  Most teens want to go out and have fun, but their parents see it the other way.  I always wondered if my parents were once teenagers, if they were why wouldn't they understand me, right?

Parents worry about a lot things, especially about what their child is doing outside, out of site does not mean out of mind.  This is understandable when you see teenagers are the most vulnerable to peer pressure, drug use, alcohol use and misguided actions.

One way you (teenagers) can ease the worries your parents is to show your parents that they've raised you to be responsible.  Maturity is key to showing parents that you are able to make decisions and decide between right and wrong.  Build trust between you and your parents.

Little by little you will be able to earn that trust and they will be less likely to argue about a request that you might ask for.  Just remember everything takes time so a lot of patience is needed, especially if your parents are hard to convince.
