Over the summer I learned how to swim. I am not the best swimmer out there but I am decent. Swimming is a good way to exercise and best of all its enjoyable. There is actually a community pool right here in City Heights between Fairmount Avenue and Landis Street. But it is not the only one, less than a mile away there is another "not as big" pool at the YMCA on 43rd and Landis Street. They charge a fairly reasonable fee. The best part is the pool is inside! That means that we can use the pool over the winter and not be cold! Swimming is also a good way to do some exercise since the holidays are here and we do not want to start looking like Santa. If swimming is not for you, don't worry the YMCA also offers: job trainings, group exercises, strength training, walking, yoga, personal fitness, tennis, football, in-line roller skate hockey, and so much more that you would get bored reading them all. If you want to come back from Christmas break toned get a membership today at the YMCA and start working out. And yes guys there is a gym so you can work out those muscles, six packs and maybe join one of the dozens of sports and activities offered at the YMCA. Did I mention there's scuba diving? Go to www.copley.ymca.org to find out more.
Today, while walking from school I passed a sign that had gas prices listed and behind that sign there is a cop on a motorcycle hiding behind it. I have walked through these streets for many years and never have a seen a cop standing there. He was looking at the traffic waiting for the next victim. I feel like they are the tigers and we are the pray and a little mistake they see they will flash their lights at us. So as I was walking, the cop suddenly drove out and flashed the lights at one car. Since this was a few feet away from where I was I could clearly see why the cop was going after this car. The driver was on the phone and quickly ended her conversation when she saw the cop. Now here in California, it is now against the law to talk/text while driving. I can consider myself a decent texter since I can text at a pretty good speed, but there are others that can text faster than me. I have seen a few around who are texting all the time and it looks like they have their phones glued to their hands. I started driving about a year ago and I have to be a cautious driver since I know my parents will hit the ceiling if I get a ticket. I am not the only out there that have started to drive there are other too. We can all drive now since we hit the wonderful age of 16 and have been able to get a permit. So this means no more rides from older friends, having to wait for mom and dad to come home to give us a ride, and best of all more freedom. Even though driving comes with a lot of privileges there are a lot of responsibilities too. Lately, there has been an increase in accidents involving people texting and driving and reports have show that most are teens. This is more than a simple ticket but texting/talking can lead to major accidents and even death. A single second can change a persons life forever. So if you want to text do it just not while driving and if you are going to talk buy a Bluetooth they may look funny, but it just may save your life.
Its almost Christmas and the time for shopping has come. Stores are all promoting sales and bargain prices to attract more customers. Last Friday was the famous Black Friday and people go in for the best prices. Some people are lining up, making camp, and waiting for the stores to open at the middle of the night. I saw the lines on TV and was surprised by the number of people who actually go. Here are some pictures i found of people waiting for this one day event:
In my opinion, its crazy. I am a self-declared sleepy head, I love to sleep and no matter how good the deals are I doubt you will ever see me waiting in these massive lines. What I would recommend many of you to do is to shop online, I find it to be more convenient. I don't have to worry about lines, parking, and best all I don't need to sacrifice my slumber. Get a computer and go to the stores' website and look for the item and wholah! you can buy anything right then and there. Best of all, since some websites are competing with stores they offer FREE shipping. One more thing before I wrap this up, the best thing about the web is that one can Google an item and compare prices. This is what I am doing to avoid lines and still be able to buy my loved one and I our Christmas gifts ;)
