Turn it Off or Mute It!

Ever been in the middle of a test and out of no where someone's cell phone rings disturbing your concentration?

Wouldn't that annoy you?

These occurrences disrupt your peers and proves the cell phone bans in class, right.  Things may be different if we all learned to practice constraint and common sense.  Ruin for you, ruin for all.

Most teenagers would deny that they use their cell phones continually, but its a fact most teens use their cell phones during instructional hours.  Even if they are caught, it does not deter them from continuing to text and use their cell phone during class.

This however, only affects them, they're not getting the education they need in order to succeed, causing them to fail their classes or even worst distracting other people that actually want to keep up with their class.  On the other hand we all know its no harm to own a cell phone, they can also be very helpful indeed especially when theres an emergency we need to know about our families or a way for people to contact you more easily.

Ever get stuck in on a research project, no ideas, no inspiration, no direction for what you want to do?

Probably everybody has gone through the same situation before.  However, not very many realize that there are tools that can make  this daunting task, simple.

1. Give yourself enough time to do research, finding useful articles, journals, or books will make the task of writing a research paper that much easier.

2. Avoid using Wikipedia as a source of information, at the same time, Wikipedia is can be used for ideas and jump start your research path.

3. Ask the librarian to give you some advice for free databases that may have information you can use, or how to utilize the library search to find books that relate to your topic.

4. Lastly, when in doubt, ask someone for help.  Clarification, restatement or the mere fact of hearing someone else explain the task to you may help you understand the prompt or directions clearly.

Study With Music!

Studies have shown that studying while listening to music is beneficial to assist students engagement in an activity and relieve stress.

However each person has a different taste and a different ways of studying, for some, rote memorization is most practical, while for others it may be easier for them to learn through examples and questions.

Not all music genres work for this practice of music and studying.

For example, listening to Metallica or heavy metal music while studying will probably not relieve your stress or engagement in your studies.

Music that may work for improving your concentration while studying or reading are: Bob Marley, classical music, or music genre that carry a slower beat and "lighter" sound.  It will help to relieve stress, so you can concentrate more on what you are studying.

Good luck!

Making money and developing one's independence is a goal for many people.  In particular, it is a goal for college students, most college students have part time or full time jobs in addition to going to school.

To be able to keep up with their classes, extra curricular activities, sport and their job, they have to learn how to manage their time wisely.  There are many ways to do so, one of which is to create a plan, using an agenda or planner to schedule your times, map out how you will spend your days.

Attend classes, avoid ditching as it may cause you to fall back on your coursework.  Find a day that you can use as a homework day, sitting down at the college's library or a quite place that will be far from distractions to complete all of your assignments.  Don't forgot, do not stress yourself out, try to have fun and relax with friends or family, its all about how you manage your time.

How to avoid procrastination

comic drawing of man procrastinatingThere has been a time in our life that we all procrastinate for one reason or another. Most of us do it for a school homework or for applications and leave everything till the last minute. Have you noticed that when you rush something it does not come out as good as it should? Same thing happens to our work we do not do as good as we should. The reason why many of procrastinate is because we think that we can do it later and as the days go back the deadline to do something comes closer. Some of us may get away with procrastinating, but not all of us are that lucky. In order to avoid procrastination is to:

  • Identify the things that you got to do and write them down. That way once you finish something you can cross it out.

  • Put the most important task first or the one you will get the most out of. You got to look for the one that benefits you the most for example a final project for your class.

  • Create deadlines for what you are doing. If there are no deadlines create deadlines for yourself. Having deadlines create urgency.

  • Break large projects into smaller ones and create a final product combining them together.

  • Clear everything and concentrate on one task only.

  • Try to develop a habit of doing things as soon as possible once its a habit it will become easier

  • It's very important that you enjoy what you are doing and try not to make a burden of it.
Once you are done or have finished steps to what you are doing reward yourself.

  • It is important to reward yourself in order to keep motivated.
